3. How to Set Yourself Up for Success

Let’s get one thing straight: If I don’t get at least 7 hours of sleep every single night, I am not a functioning human the next day. Although I love to think that I still have the energy to go out and bounce back like I used to in college, that simply is not the case. At the ripe age of 27, I love being in bed by 10pm, skincare slugged on, tea on my bedside table, and my journal ready to go. I am a certified self-care girl, and that is how I set myself up for success every single day.

While I have spent many hours listening to podcasts, watching videos, and reading books about the best practices for self-care, the results only started to show for me when I committed to taking action. Whether that means going to yoga in the morning, drinking a cup of peppermint tea, or putting on a funky outfit that makes me feel good, I got very clear on how I can sustain any feeling of success throughout my days.

There are 3 areas of focus that I encourage anyone to think about when figuring out how to set yourself up for success:

  • What is a form of exercise that makes you feel good and keeps you showing up daily?

For me, I love my yoga practice and the community that I am a part of here in Brooklyn. It brings me joy to move my body in a way that feels good while seeing physical results from the consistent efforts I have made to show up for myself.

  • What is a food, drink, or supplement that you can take daily to help kick-start your day?

My Morning Oatmeal: A Love Affair - this would be the title of my novel if I ever wrote one about the oatmeal that I have perfected and make almost every single morning. I know that if I make this oatmeal my day is going to be absolutely incredible from start to finish.

  • What is something fun that you can incorporate into your day that allows you to let loose?

From turning on a fire playlist while I go on a walk/dance around the park, to experimenting with some cool thrift pieces in my wardrobe, I love to let my inner child play and have fun. I’m not sure when being playful and lighthearted ever went out of style, but this is the energy I’m channeling from now onward. The people that get it, get it.

Cheers to figuring out what works best for you and what doesn’t! The bottom line is, your day looks different from everyone else’s, so that means you need to move according to what feels good for you, not your neighbor, best friend, sister, father, or co-worker.

Now, go have yourself a successful a** day.
